Brachial Plexus Injuries Can Result In Permanent Disability

No one has to tell you that babies are fragile beings whose entire existence relies on the care of others. It is why you did everything in your power to keep your baby safe in your womb for nine long months. When it comes time to bring your child into the world, you rely on your team of labor nurses, doctors and hospital staff to do the same.

Martin + Fielding is a law firm in Oklahoma City you can turn to for legal relief when any member of that team fails to uphold the standard of care necessary to keep your child safe from harm.

If your child has brachial plexus palsy or Erb's palsy, you may have a claim for compensation. Speak with a lawyer about your legal rights and options at 800-594-9269. Your consultation is free.

What Is Brachial Plexus Palsy And Erb's Palsy?

The brachial plexus is a bundle of nerves that run from your neck, under the shoulder and into your arm. It controls the movement and sensation in your shoulder, arm and hand. Brachial plexus palsy occurs when this bundle of nerves is torn or stretched during delivery, often caused by a doctor's mistake.

Children who suffer an injury to the brachial plexus may be left with a disability. They may not be able to raise, move or stretch their arms normally and lose feeling in their arm.

  • Erb's palsy is the most common type of brachial plexus palsy. It involves trauma to the upper nerves in the bundle.
  • Total or "global" brachial plexus palsy occurs when both the upper and lower bundles are damaged.

Brachial plexus palsy can correct itself over time with physical therapy exercises. It could also result in permanent, partial or total paralysis. When children suffer a severe brachial plexus injury, it may prevent their arm from growing properly.

Your Child May Be Entitled To Compensation, But Time Is Limited

If your child has suffered a birth injury such as brachial plexus palsy, they may require lifelong assistance. You can help them get the compensation they will need to cover those costs, but your time to file a lawsuit is limited.
